Make a free website with Clutterme

Prom, 2003
Just testing this site out.  Interesting concept.

Things that could use improvement:

a)  I have a 1920x1280 widescreen monitor.  Two, actually.  I'm just going by "feel" as to how far out to put things so that I don't screw up the experience of somebody running this in a medium-sized window on a more typical monitor.

b)  "Edit Stuff" and "Done Editing" need improvement.  I can't tell whether I'm supposed to be "Done Editing", or whether I need to click it to be "Done Editing".  Especially since you can edit either way, you just get more options one way.  It should be clear that there is a change -- maybe an icon or something will show the current state, and the text can be something that makes it clear that you are issuing a command.

c)  Bold and italics could be useful.  Maybe I just haven't figured out how to access   them.  I can live without full justify, I guess.  I would like tab to work, especially since spacing changes subtly when you unselect a text box.  Which brings me to:

c and a half)  Spacing shouldn't shift when you unselect a text box.

d)  Sometimes when I'm in "Edit Stuff" I inexplicably can no longer edit stuff until I click off somewhere else, then click the "Done Editing/Edit Stuff" button twice to get back on track.  This is on Firefox 2.0.0.6 with a variety of extensions I don't care to list off.

e)  When that happens, trying to drag a picture results in clicking it.  So does trying to reposition it subtly, if I don't drag for a long enough time.  This means that I go to the picture's URL and then I have to click back.  At this point, I must be sure to remember to hit refresh before moving anything, because it will have undone some saved data.  I think it that when you are "editing stuff", links should not followed on the page.  Those icons like delete and bear-paw drag could have a follow-link icon.  I understand that this might be non-trivial to do, since that means that edit mode has to actually get rid of all the linking business.  Then again, it might be easy.  It's been a long time since I've done much on the Web.

f)  Speaking of subtle shifts, some way to "snap" text and pictures to some alignment or another would be useful in speeding up layout.

g)  I should be able to send pictures to the front or to the back.  Relatedly, uploading pictures puts them in a specific location on the screen, which depending on your page design might be behind another picture.  That prom picture on the top right?  I made it by entering the URL, and it's always on top of anything I upload, but beneath any later http:// linked images.  Also, it shows me going to prom with identical twins.  Just thought I'd mention that (hi Lindsay, hi Jennifer).

h)  Need some way of grouping items.  For instance, I would like it if I could move the prom picture with the prom caption together.  And I'd like to be able to move my three online avatars together along with their caption.  This could be a multiple-select, or it could be putting them all in a "box", where all items within the box can be moved around within the box, and the box itself can be moved.  The box could have optional frames and alternate background colours, like the page itself -- or it could be simple and invisible.  Just throwing ideas out there.  Ideally, we have all of these ideas working together.  But nested boxes or group select on their own are each almost as good as both together.

i)  Some way to make some areas off-limits for other people's writings (or alternatively, a small region that is the only place within the limits).

j)  ---------------------------------------
Some better way than that ^ or an uploaded line picture to make a line.  This could be related to the "snapping" thing I mentioned.

k)  I'd like some way to save a state in case my redesign idea turns out to be crap, or in case I accidentally change something.

l)  The top-to-bottom layout order appears to depend on whether or not I'm logged in -- this means that when I'm logged in to my account, Mark's berating my prom picture disappears.  Verified on IE also.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am impressed with the Widgets and would like to see those grow.
